A Day in the Life of Sean

My name is Sean. I am a ninja. Or at least, that is what I tell everyone I meet.

I like to build things out of legos...particularly things that have a ninja on them like the green lego ninja in this picture.

Despite being a tough ninja/lego engineer, I like to stay in touch with my sensitive side.

As a ninja, I always look out for my baby sister.

Ninja speed...I'm a blur!

A Day in the Life of Cami

My name is Cami. I am a baby who likes to eat.

I also like to read.

Look, there's a ceiling fan up there! Ceiling fans are soooo awesome.

Girls can play with cars too.

Peek-a-boo!

Being this cute all day is hard work.

Indoor fun

Yesterday we enjoyed seeing the sun for a change. But just because the rain came back today didn't mean we couldn't have fun! Our day included:

Art projects:

Hiking (that's right, I said hiking!)

And of course there was reading and playing with puzzles. After all the playing, someone needed a little rest:

I don't think they minded staying indoors very much:

Relay trail run

This Saturday, I participated with some friends in a 50 mile relay trail run. It was divided up so that everyone ended up running 3 times, for a total of about 13 miles apiece. It was really fun, but I was so not prepared for the trail that almost 7 of my miles were on. Basically it was ankle deep mud, with rocks, frequent knee deep puddles, logs across streams, and other streams with no logs but with rocks to jump across. Oh and did I say there was mud? It was lucky that I had brought a change of clothes and shoes because I may as well have taken a mud bath in the ones I had worn for that stretch of trail. It was probably the most difficult 7 miles I've ever ran, including the last 7 miles of my marathon.

It was really fun. At least a lot of it was really fun, and the mud puddle running parts that were slightly less fun at the time seem really fun in retrospect. It was a great experience and fun to run with a lot of other people. I hope to do it again next year.

This is my running partner and I finishing our last run (this section was 3 miles). Our team was divided into four groups of two people each. Running with someone else makes it go a lot faster.

Rained on

Today, since it wasn't raining (for about the first time in a week) we decided to go on a nice Memorial Day walk together. When we were about a mile away from our home, it started pouring. We all got completely soaked through. Since we were already as wet as we could get, I let Sean jump in every puddle on the way home. He thought it was the best walk ever.

Afterward, the kids were of course both given baths.

In the interest of full disclosure, these pictures are not from the events today. Our camera's battery is low and the charger is missing. I hated to go without illustrations though when I have such cute children :)

Bryant's birthday and more

Bryant is now three decades old. To console him for getting so old I made him a chocolate birthday cake.

I think it looks like a giant doughnut.

Sean was having fun with the camera that day and wanted to surprise his daddy by taking a picture of him the moment he walked in the door that evening. Here is the result:

Cami has been going to swimming class with me on Saturdays. She is getting really good at kicking her legs while she is on her tummy. She looks very cute in her little pink swimming suit:

Last night Sean got to camp out in the living room. Don't ask me why this was so exciting, but he had been looking forward to it all week!

Also this week, I finally worked up the nerve to get my hair cut. I've had it long for quite some time now and have been getting really sick of it. Here are the results:

It's been a fun busy week!

Self-feeding

I was feeding Cami her typical breakfast this morning: plain yogurt with pureed fruit mixed in, when she grabbed the spoon (she has been doing this a lot lately). She has been wanting to feed herself with the spoon for a while now, so I let her use the spoon with my help. She was doing so well that I let her try using the spoon all by herself.

After the yogurt started getting low, she decided it was better to use her free hand in addition to her spoon (in the other hand) to expedite the process of moving yogurt to her mouth.

She really enjoyed feeding herself. I am now questioning my judgment in giving her a bath this morning before breakfast though!

Sean noticed his sister getting a lot of attention for eating with her hands and decided it was a good idea too:
